Dancing radio hamster does it for Free

Free Radio’s marketing campaign against Global’s quasi-national brands in the Midlands is centred around a dancing Hamster.

A new television advert featuring the hamster dancing to Free Radio music started this week during Britain’s Got Talent, Coronation Street and Piers Morgan Life Stories.

The caged hamster is being used to suggest that listeners set themselves free, and will also being used to market sister station Gem 106 in the East Midlands.

One of the reasons given for rebranding heritage stations such as BRMB and Beacon was the ability to have one marketing plan across the entire region.

Owner Orion Media says “It positions Free Radio as a station with character which engages with its audience in a fun and entertaining way.

“It features three great tracks which we know adults in their 30’s love, and is designed to brighten up the listeners day with Today’s best music mix.”
