Global Radio’s Classic FM has announced the results of its annual poll to find the nation’s favourite movie scores.
And the winner of the UK’s favourite composer of film music in the Classic FM Movie Music Countdown is.. John Williams. He created the soundtrack to Jurassic Park, Star Wars, E.T. and many more. An exclusive interview with him is available online.
Retaining the number one position in the Movie Music Countdown, now in its fourth year, is the theme from Peter Jackson’s monumental adaptation of The Lord of The Rings, written by Howard Shore. This is followed in second place by Hans Zimmer’s Oscar-nominated music from the epic blockbuster Gladiator, which features haunting vocals from Lisa Gerrard.
Classic FM presenter John Suchet said: “The growing interest in film music confirms that modern classical music is as popular with UK audiences as ever. And I’m delighted to see that my personal favourite – Gone with the Wind – has made the top twenty!”
