Exciting times for Celador as new CEO appointed

Changes at Celador include a new CEO, upcoming boardroom appointments and exciting announcements in the coming days and weeks.

Carol Edwards, currently Managing Director, South Region will take over from Don Thompson as Chief Executive Officer at Celador with immediate effect.

Carol has been working in the UK radio industry for 15 years, having started at Galaxy, Birmingham in 2000, then spending three years as commercial director for Heart & Galaxy, West Midlands, followed by two years as MD at Leicester Sound. Before joining Celador in 2012 Carol was Sales Manager at Smooth Radio West Midlands.

Carol’s appointment is in preparation for Don Thomson’s scheduled departure from the company on 12th August. Don took up his current position on December 1st 2013, having previously served four years as a non-executive director with Celador Radio. Until his departure he will act as a consultant to the company.

Celador Radio Chairman, Paul Smith added ‘Carol will join the strongest board of directors from which the company has ever benefited. Richard Johnson is the power behind all programming and has unparalleled experience in every aspect of UK commercial radio. It is a privilege to work alongside him. Recently appointed Finance Director, Andrew Hawksley is already making his mark and is rapidly refining the finance department into its most efficient and responsive incarnation. Non-executive Stephen Dover, who has been with Celador from its very beginning in December 1981, will remain in his key role.

“I will continue as Executive Chairman and it is likely that the board will be supplemented by one or more appointees in the not too distant future. These are very exciting times for Celador Radio, as will become evident over the coming days and weeks.”

RadioToday understands the company may be launching a new radio brand in the near future, too.
