Mark Page to apply to run a DAB multiplex

Former Radio Tees and Radio 1 presenter Mark Page wants one of Ofcom’s 10 small scale DAB trial licences, to broadcast to Teesside.

He says the area has not been served by a local commercial radio station since TFM moved to Newcastle in 2013, and is looking for investors and other stations who can afford to be on the multiplex with him.

Ofcom is encouraging bids with multiple broadcasters, and Mark himself will provide a full-service station on the multiplex if his bid is successful.

Mark said: “Since TFM moved to Newcastle nearly two years ago, this is the largest area of the UK not served by a local commercial radio station. Although it is not the preferred choice of FM, the digital trial is more than feasible and would also be broadcast on the internet and as an app.

“However they are offering just ten trials across the whole of the UK.”

The closing date is April 7th with applicants expected to commence within 12 weeks of award.
