Rob Charles hangs up his radio headphones

Former Rock FM, Century 105 and The Bee presenter Rob Charles has left DAB station Sandgrounder Radio and says he’s finished with radio for good.

He left last week, posting an image of his headphones hanging up, saying he’s loved every minute of being involved with the start-up of the Southport station, as he wanted to offer “something extra from the same 500 songs played out by radio stations”.

Rob has presented various daytime shows mostly breakfast on Rock FM, Century, The Bee, Magic, and KFM in Stockport. Previous to these stations he worked on Radio Caroline in the 1980s & The Voice Of Peace in Israel.

He has recently recorded the second series of Peter Kay’s Car Share where he plays Mike the breakfast presenter of the fictional radio station, Forever FM.

At Sandgrounder, he was Head of Music and Drivetime presenter but told RadioToday that certain things were not working for him so decided to call it a day after 30 years working on the radio. He says he’s open to suggestions on what to do next, but is continuing to volunteer at Great Yorkshire Radio.
