Tributes paid to radio presenter and voice-over Bob Stewart

Former Radio Luxembourg and Radio Caroline broadcaster Bob Stewart has died.

Bob was the longest serving presenter at Luxembourg, which he joined in 1969 after working at Radio Caroline. He stayed there until the station went on satellite, hosting a number of programmes including the Country and Western Show on the British Top 30.

He was the distinctive station voice for many years – heard on imaging, announcing the programmes, elements and presenters, along with the opening and closedown sequences.

He was also heard on Jazz FM, Capital Gold, Radio London, Red Rose Gold and many more.

His friends and colleagues are sharing their tributes on Twitter, and David Lloyd has published this blog and audio montage.

Such sad news. One of the greatest voices on radio.
He went to Luxembourg in 1969 and listeners followed him there from Caroline North, and his great friend Don Allen went to Manx, where Bob did some great voice overs for them.

Bob Stewart came across as a dj with no airs and graces. After luxembourg, he was on capital gold . I remember listening to his final show on a sunday evening in july 1996.
He was also known as baby Bob Stewart.
There is no station like luxembourg these days, there was a never ending string of new releases every day with the top 30 meaning so much.

  5. R.I.P. Baby Bob Stewart, I fondly remember you on Radio Caroline. If my mind is correct you radio theme tune was “Image” by Alan Haven??

There has been no other like him since. All of us that knew him personally also know that a great person has left. And for me, I realize as I reminisce, my youth has died. Gone forever.
