Durham FM and Alpha Radio to return under new ownership

Durham and Darlington will see the return of their local radio stations in June as Durham FM and Alpha Radio return.

The two licences, previously held by View TV Group and broadcast as Rathergood Radio, have been bought by Helius Media Group.

Head of Programming, Ryan Davies told RadioToday: “I would like to thank Jamie and the View TV Group for this exciting opportunity. I am looking forward to building two great new local radio stations in the next few weeks, before a full launch in June.”

Alpha Radio and later Alpha 103.2 launched in 1995 whilst Durham FM launched in 2005. Both were rebranded as Star Radio and shared programmes under ownership of TLRC / UKRD. Most recently they have been identifying as Vintage Music Radio.

Helius Media Group is a part-owner of Imagine in Stockport, in a joint venture with Like Radio.
