Virtual Young Audio Awards to be streamed live

The radio and audio awards for under-18s has been rescheduled and will take place virtually from 3pm on Thursday 7 May 2020.

Originally scheduled to take place at the BBC Radio Theatre last month, the virtual ceremony will be free to view via the Young Audio Awards’ YouTube page.

Matt Edmondson and Mollie King from BBC Radio 1, plus Hits Radio’s Fleur East, BBC Radio 1’s Greg James, 5 Live’s Laura Whitmore and Radio 2’s Rylan Clark-Neal will be handing out awards from their own homes.

Prizes include a show on national radio, mentorship with well-known radio presenters and a new radio studio for a school.

Award ambassadors and BBC Radio 1 presenters Matt & Mollie said: “With so many radio shows being made from home right now, we’re over the moon to be taking part in something really special with a virtual awards ceremony. We can’t wait to celebrate the young people making great content all across the UK, in their schools, communities and homes.”

Siobhan Kenny, Radiocentre CEO, said: “We were very sad to have to postpone the Young Audio Awards. There is so much great content being made by under-18s that we really wanted an opportunity to properly showcase all the brilliant Young Audio work. Adults and children alike are working from home right now, so we’re excited to bring the celebration directly to them. Tune in to hear more from the talent of tomorrow.”

The Young Audio Awards are supported by Arqiva, BBC Sounds, Broadcast Bionics, Fun Kids, SchoolRadio.com and BBC Young Reporter.
