The late Janice Long is to be recognised for her broadcasting legacy by the Radio Academy following her death at Christmas.
The former BBC Radio 1 presenter will be honoured with the inaugural Pioneer Award at this year’s ARIAS.
The Radio Academy says: “Janice was the first woman to have a daily music show on Radio 1 – who went on to present at XFM, Radio 2, 6Music, BBC Local Radio, Radio Wales and Greatest Hits Radio – Janice was a true trailblazer and paved the way for women in broadcasting.
“Looking back over her illustrious career, with tributes from some of the many artists Janice supported in her career, Radio 2’s Zoe Ball will present Janice’s family with the inaugural Pioneer Award at this year’s ARIAS, taking place on 3 May at The Adelphi Theatre in London.”
The in-person only event will also recognise the winners of awards in 25 categories, from Best Music Breakfast Show, to UK Station of the Year. The show will be hosted by Rylan, with live voiceover from Fleur East.
