Absolute Radio makes listeners’ rockstar dreams come to life

Absolute Radio has brought six listeners together to form a band.

The six-week rock ‘n’ roll project saw Breakfast host Dave Berry and his team give mums and dads who used to play in bands in their younger years, the chance to play again.

Those who wanted to take part had to send in videos as part of an audition process that ran across the Breakfast show.

The lucky listeners who secured their place in ‘The Band of Mum & Dad’ headed to the Absolute Radio building in London to record a cover of Kings of Leon’s ‘Sex on Fire’, a song chosen by other listeners and their version was played out on air today.

Speaking about the project, Dave Berry said: “At Absolute Radio we’re the station where ‘real music matters’ and for many listeners, music has been something that they might have had fun creating and playing in their younger years – but due to the steady passage of time and having children, have since had to put on the backburner.

“But no more! Thanks to The Band of Mum and Dad, these six talented individuals are able to relive their dreams, and what a journey it’s been! Culminating in this amazing performance broadcast today, I couldn’t be prouder of this amazing group of people. And we hope it shows, it’s never too late to chase your dreams.”
