New series, The Scala Radio Residency to be hosted by musicians

Scala Radio is launching a new Sunday afternoon show hosted by different musicians.

Hosts for The Scala Radio Residency will be from a Grammy winning composer to a world-class conductor, each curating their own programme each week centred on a different theme.

Artists confirmed for the six-month series include Chloe Flower, a pianist and composer who has worked with a range of musicians such as Babyface, Cardi B and Céline Dion.

Composer of concert and screen music, and the first composer of video game music to win a Grammy Award, Christopher Tin will also host, as will composer, singer and cellist Ayanna Witter-Johnson.

Conductor Marin Alsop will join as a returning host for the series. She’s the first woman to head up a Viennese orchestra and the first one to conduct the Last Night of the BBC Proms.

Speaking about the launch of the new show, Scala Radio’s Programme Manager Jenny Nelson said: “Often classical music is seen as inaccessible and stuck in the past as opposed to being the ever-changing and inspiring genre that we at Scala Radio know it be.

“Since launching in 2019, we have been focussed on bringing our audiences classical music that fits our modern lives and that’s exactly what we hope to continue with these new series.

“Bringing our audience four game-changing, diverse musicians who enrich the music scene with their influences and new ideas, we’re sure that listeners will feel inspired and entertained as they soundtrack their Sunday afternoons with some contemporary works, familiar favourites and new discoveries.”

The Scala Radio Residency will air each Sunday from 6th November, 3-5pm.
