Ofcom reports 15 radio stations in breach during February

Broadcasting regulator Ofcom has issued reports on 15 radio stations in breach of their licence conditions during the month of February 2023.

Revolution Radio was found in breach for providing recordings from its studio output rather than its broadcast output.

Radio Scarborough failed to fulfil the requirements specified in its Key Commitments to deliver 84 hours of original output per week and locally-produced output at all
times.

Sabras Radio was found guilty of broadcasting offensive language not justified by the context.

Salaam Radio failed to meet its original output and speech requirements and did not achieve the facilitation of discussion and expression of opinion as stated in its Key Commitments.

River Radio – a predominantly talk radio station broadcasting on DAB in Berkshire – failed to provide recordings and information to Ofcom on request, relating to a fairness complaint.

Embrace Radio in Northampton failed to fulfil the requirements specified in its Key Commitments with regard to music and speech

Buchan Community Radio in Peterhead failed to fulfil the requirements specified in its Key Commitments to deliver original output for a minimum of 107 hours per week and to provide speech output over the course of each week comprised of local news, weather and travel, community information, what’s on, and interviews.

In addition, eight licensees failed to submit their Relevant Turnover returns for 2021. They are Baikal Radio, Starpoint Radio, UNITY DAB, Brighton FM, 88.3 Centreforce, Liverpool Live 24/7, Rootz N’ Rockerz and Trickstar Radio.
