BBC England’s head of audio and digital Chris Burns is set to take part in a panel discussion on the future of local radio.
She’ll be joined at the Community Media Festival in Leicester by Alfred owner Keri Jones and Miriam James from Devonstream, with CMA Chair Dom Chambers hosting.
Chris has come under fire recently by industry observers for her role in the changes at BBC Local Radio, allowing dozens of experienced presenters to depart stations across England and the introduction of shared afternoon and weekend programmes.
Her appearance at the Community Media Festival on Saturday 28th October was confirmed today by the event organisers, along with the full schedule.
The day will be a celebration of community radio stations from across the UK with twelve stations presenting their success stories on stage and a host of discussions, speeches, question and answer sessions and exhibition stands from various companies servicing the community radio sector.
Sessions include David Lloyd presenting his thoughts on UK radio right now and where community radio sits within the wider industry. Liz Kershaw will host a Q&A session, and there’ll be a look at funding and finance.
Further sessions include Radio Academy’s new managing director Aradhna Tayal Leach in conversation, a presentation by PPL’s Jez Bell, a look at Small Scale DAB, Prison Radio and Community Television.
Radioplayer will be making an announcement which will interest community radio stations, and the event will be attended by sponsors Radio.co, Broadcast Radio, Broadcast Bionics, PPL, along with RadioToday.
And the Broadcast Engineers Conservation Society will be bringing some old broadcasting kit for attendees to see, which will sit alongside the Broadcast Bionics Van.
In the evening there’ll be a 40th anniversary disco nearby.
