West Hull FM 106.9FM is launching on DAB+ to a wider area around Hull and Beverley and has rebranded as Humber Wave Radio.
West Hull Community Radio has been broadcasting to Hull since 2007 as West Hull FM 106.9FM and was the first community station win a licence to broadcast in the region.
Adey Wright, Managing Director of WHCR said: “As the region’s biggest community station, we have benefitted from other broadcasters pulling out of the city, or in the case of the BBC reducing costs in favour of their internet platforms.
“Our service broadcasts 24 hours a day and touches more places than ever before. Our new digital radio platform increases this reach even further. We all know the future is digital, and we are excited to once again be pioneers in broadcasting the first truly local digital service to Hull, East Yorkshire, and North Lincolnshire as Humber Wave Radio.”
Richard Moore, WHCR Technical Director added: “We have been a springboard for some great radio talent over the years. We welcome anyone who would like to try their hand at broadcasting to get in touch – it doesn’t matter if you are young, old, or have any previous experience as we provide full training. All you need to provide is the enthusiasm and desire to reach out to the community.”
Humber Wave Radio will be on Hull DAB from mid-April.
