BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music quit Facebook and X publishing

BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 6 Music will no longer post to their millions of followers on Facebook and X in favour of TikTok and Instagram.

The stations made the announcements on their respective accounts today (X) and last week (Facebook) saying they will no longer be updating the feeds but will still monitor when they are tagged.

Between Radio 2 and 6 Music, they have over three million followers across Facebook and X, compared to just over 1.5m on TikTok and Instagram.

In the UK, the majority of TikTok users are under 35, whilst the majority of Facebook users are over 35.

BBC Radio 2’s audience is now mostly adults over the age of 35 (82% of listeners).

Other national BBC stations including BBC Radio 1 (with 2.9m followers) and 5 Live (with 672k followers) have not made any announcements about their future on the platforms.

A BBC spokesperson told RadioToday: “Our approach to promotional content continually evolves, including the use of social media, in line with changing audience behaviours.”
