Dave Ellis brings long running community radio soul show to an end

Dave Ellis, who was part of the original team at Radio Verulam, now known as Mix 92.6, is ending his soul show on the station after 17 years.

Radio Verulam was one of the first community stations licenced in the UK, broadcasting to St Albans and the surrounding area since 2007.

With an aim of catching the spirit of 80’s London based pirate soul stations, The Dave Ellis Soul Show is broadcast from ‘Soul Towers’.  Guests on the show have included Earth Wind and Fire’s Mo Pleasure, The Real Thing’s Chris Amoo and local bands.

Dave says: “I’m sure most presenters would relish the freedom to play and talk about their own record collection and I certainly have.

“The Soul Show was always an indulgence that seemed to prove very popular, but with new projects in the pipeline thanks to local DAB, now seems the right time to ‘clear the decks’ although I do feel guilty choosing to end a show that I know people still enjoy, 17 years is a long time to indulge.”

Mix 92.6 programme controller Andy Waterfield added: “Although Mix 92.6 will continue with a soul show, Dave and his programme will really be missed.”

Dave’s final programme will air on Saturday 24th August, 8pm to 10pm.
