Amber Radio, which covers Norfolk and North Suffolk on DAB is closing down this weekend.
The station, which was set up by Mike Stewart, the original Programme Controller of Radio Broadland and later MD of the former SGR fm in Ipswich and Colchester along with Bob Norman, former MD of Radio Broadland and Heart Norwich, has been on air for about a year and says it can longer fund the current set up.
Posting on the station’s Facebook page, a statement said: “Some disappointing news. We regret to say that Amber Radio will be closing down on Saturday night.
“It’s been great to be back on the airwaves on DAB in Norfolk and North Suffolk and also on-line, further afield.
“After a year on-air, our funds, as a mainly voluntary group, are now unfortunately insufficient to continue in the current set-up and circumstances.
“All of us at Amber have been really grateful for the welcome, warm messages and strong support shown by people in the area.”
The station added that it would love to continue, but that’s not possible at the moment although it is looking at “other possible options for the future”.
Concluding the statement, it said: “Thanks to all of you listening who discovered the station over the weeks since the end of August last year and for the involvement of our sponsors and advertisers, especially Busseys and Smith & Pinching, who’ve stayed with us from day one.
“Finally, thanks to all the members of our presentation and support team, who joined in with this initiative to bring back local radio.”
