BBC Radio 3 has hired voice-over Emma Clarke as its new Saturday Breakfast presenter.
Emma, who has been the voice of hundreds of radio stations around the world for decades, will make her regular presenting debut at the station on October 5th 2024, following a few cover shifts.
In a post online, Emma said: “I’d love it if you’d tune in! Huge thanks to Sam Jackson for giving me this amazing opportunity.”
In addition to being a VO, Emma is a writer and PhD student at the Royal Northern College of Music specialising in music composition. She’s one of the Britten Sinfonia Opus 1 composers. She’s won the Gold award for composition at the World Classical Music awards three times.
Emma said the show came about because of a recording session she did for another station (Classic FM?!), where Radio 3’s now Controller Sam Jackson was in the studio, and remembered her voice.
“Sam asked me to record a pilot and once that was done, he offered me this incredible presenting job,” Emma wrote on her blog.
“I’m absolutely over the moon to be working with the BBC, a world-class brand,” Emma added. “And Radio 3 brings you some of the best music the world has to offer – live concerts every day, the BBC proms, classical music, opera, jazz, world music, drama, culture and the arts.”
Emma replaces Elizabeth Alker who has shared the news on social media that, after five years, next week will be her last edition.
Elizabeth says: “So many of you feel like dear friends so I wanted to say THANK YOU for tuning in and making it such brilliant fun. I’ve loved sharing the music with you and I know you’ll keep Emma Clarke in the very best company.”
