Bauer is to network a single breakfast show across its Hits Radio network from June 9th 2025.
It means the heritage local and regional shows will all come to an end, with a number of job losses in presentation and production departments.
Bauer communicated the news to staff today, but no mention has been made as to who will host the national breakfast show.
When asked, Bauer told us the full details will be announced in due course.
By our calculations, there are currently 12 different breakfast shows on the Hits Radio network in England and Wales – being reduced to one.
Scotland will continue with its own programming.
Local news and information will continue, but the move means all programmes, 24 hours a day, on stations previously operating as stand alone services in previous years, will become fully networked.
This has been made possible following the introduction of the Media Act 2024, which Global has also announced recent similar changes.
Bauer will also consolidate its production capabilities into seven key centres located in London, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Belfast.
Simon Myciunka, CEO of Bauer Media Audio UK, commented: “We continually evolve to meet audience behaviours and advertiser needs and by launching one single national Breakfast show across Hits Radio, we are supercharging our efforts to provide a more unified, engaging experience across the entire schedule while also retaining local news and information.”
“I’d like to extend my thanks to our Hits Radio Breakfast teams in England and Wales as they embark on their final run of shows.
“Their significant contribution has played a hugely important part of the Hits Radio story so far and we wish them well for the future.”
