EBU members elect a new radio committee from services throughout Europe

EBU Members have today elected a new Radio Committee, made up of fourteen senior executives of public service media from throughout Europe.

Re-elected as Chair for another two-year term, Sibyle Veil, CEO of Radio France, will continue to lead the committee in shaping strategic priorities that will define the future of public service radio in Europe.

Ten current board members will be returning, including re-elected Vice Chairs Graham Ellis (BBC) and Mirko Štular (RTVSLO), and newly elected Vice Chair Sofia Taavitsainen (Sveriges Radio).

Ingrid Thurnher (ORF) and Rusudan Manjgaladze (GPB) join the Radio Committee for the first time. Javier Sànchez (RTVE) rejoins the committee, having previously served during terms 2019-2021 and 2021-2023.

Optimising radio distribution across connected devices, especially in cars, will remain an important focus for the committee, alongside advocating for stronger legal protection for radio in the EU. Closer collaboration with the commercial radio sector will be integral to the overall approach to these priorities.

The Radio Committee will also continue to support innovation among the EBU’s radio membership, facilitating knowledge exchange around topics such as the ethical use of synthetic voices, AI and other emerging technologies.

Sibyle Veil, CEO, Radio France said: “For the past two years, as Chair of the EBU Radio Committee, I’ve been keen to defend the interests of our medium with determination. Together with my counterparts, I’ve sought to strengthen the dynamism of public service radio in Europe, making it more resilient and ready to reinvent itself to serve the needs of listeners even more effectively.”

“I’m convinced that, more than ever, our societies need solid public radio stations that know how to innovate and create the soundscapes of tomorrow. It’s an honour to continue this undertaking.”
