Two new services have appeared on BBC Sounds labelled as BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra 2 and BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra 3.
These are part-time streams in addition to the current Sports Extra service, and will be home to existing content from across the BBC.
Details of these services were outlined in the BBC’s Annual Plan published in March, and are now available for listeners using the BBC Sounds app.
Ofcom recently rejected proposals to extend the content offer of Radio 5 Sports Extra, saying the station’s expansion could have a significant impact on commercial sports radio, specifically the talkSPORT Network, and ordered the BBC to not proceed with its plans in this area.
BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra 2 and BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra 3 are for occasional streaming content, rather than fully functioning radio stations, mostly used for when events happen at the same time.
