Wynne Evans leaves BBC Radio Wales after contract not renewed

Wynne Evans says he’s not returning to his BBC Radio Wales programme because the BBC isn’t renewing his contract.

The broadcaster has taken time off from the weekday show following the much reported Strictly Come Dancing live tour controversy.

Evans, who launched his BBC Radio Wales mid-morning show in 2016, revealed that he was leaving the station in a video he posted on Instagram.

Thanking listeners for their support over the last few months, he said: “Now, because you’ve given me so much. I need to tell you this first and honestly and it absolutely breaks my heart to say that the BBC has decided not to renew my contract, so I won’t be returning to my radio show.

“I’m absolutely gutted if I’m honest because the show well, it wasn’t just work, it was home. It was where we laughed, where we cried, where we sang like nobody was really listening to us and somehow that got through the airwaves, and we became a family.”

He also announced that he’s launching a new radio station on an app and on Alexa and Google in the next couple of weeks.

He said The Wynne Evans Show, will air live every day from 9am–12pm and added: “I’m bringing more presenters soon and I am sure you’ll recognise a few of the faces.”
