Danny Matthews launches as celebrant after three decades on radio

Radio host Danny Matthews is now offering independent celebrant services across the UK.

The former Bay Breakfast presenter has launched a new business creating and delivering ceremonies for weddings, funerals, vow renewals and more.

Having started at Piccadilly Radio aged just 14, Danny went on to host programmes on Century, Capital Gold and The Bay in Lancaster.

Now focusing on a new career path, Danny has trained with the Academy of Professional Celebrants and qualified with distinction in May this year.

His decision followed two personal experiences where he was asked to speak at funerals — one for his father and another for a former colleague. The response led him to formalise the role.

Danny said: “Most people aren’t clear about the role of a celebrant. You don’t have to have a registrar at your wedding or a religious service at a funeral. I want to help families create the day they want.”

The new business, Danny Matthews – Independent Celebrant, is now taking bookings nationwide. Danny says he aims to guide people through every step of the planning process, offering personalised ceremonies that reflect individual stories and values.
