Radio X creates ‘beer-proof parkas’ ahead of Oasis reunion tour

Radio X has released a limited run of beer-proof parkas for gig-goers preparing to see Oasis live this summer.

The launch comes as new research predicts over two million pints will be thrown into the air during the band’s reunion tour.

The parkas have been designed to protect fans from celebratory pint showers — a common sight at festivals and concerts. All proceeds will go to Global’s Make Some Noise, the charity supported by Radio X.

Radio X presenter Johnny Vaughan tested the jackets outside a pub in London to demonstrate their water-repellent quality.

The release follows a study suggesting 8.6 million pints could be sold across the tour, with 25% likely to end up airborne — equating to £16.5 million worth of spilt beer. The survey was based on responses from 2,000 UK adults.

Fans say they’re ready to stand in the rain for up to nine hours if it means seeing Oasis together again. Over three-quarters called the reunion one of the most exciting moments of their lives.

To mark the countdown to the first show in Cardiff on 4 July, Radio X has also launched a dedicated Oasis radio stream, playing non-stop tracks from the band’s back catalogue.

Managing Editor Matt Deverson said: “When pints start flying, we want to make sure you’re not wearing them.”
