Mylo and Rosie join BBC Radio 1 following Hits Radio departure

Danny Mylo and Rosie Madison are joining BBC Radio 1 following their departure from Hits Radio.

They’re part of the temporary summer schedule at the station and will host early breakfast each Friday morning in July for now.

Mylo and Rosie say: “We cannot put it into words how excited we are to be joining the Radio 1 team, it’s a real pinch me moment. If we could tell those two mates who started in radio by making tea for the good grown up presenters that we’d be talking to you now, they wouldn’t have believed you! And we kinda don’t either.

“Our job is to literally make each other laugh every single day so it goes without saying, we hope you’ll have a laugh with us too.”

They join as Greg James gets a longer breakfast show for the summer months, going on till 11am.

Greg said: “No one thinks being on the radio for three and a half hours a day is a real job. And they’re right. How about four? Is that better?”

Other schedule changes see Sam and Danni take over Going Home from 28 July, covering for Vick Hope and Katie Thistleton, who are both on maternity leave, while Jamie Laing is away filming.

And TikTok creator Charley Marlowe will host the early breakfast show each Friday in August.

Charley added: “I’ll be playing as much Jane McDonald and Kylie Minogue as the BBC allow. Otherwise you can expect anything from a show tune to Madonna.”

Elsewhere, Life Hacks on Sundays from 4pm to 6pm will be co-hosted by Lauren Layfield alongside Tskenya Frazer in July and Yinka Bokinni in August. Tskenya first appeared on Radio 1 during last year’s Christmas Takeover.

Tskenya said: “We will delve into important topics impacting not only young people, but all of us as global citizens.”

Yinka, who has previously presented at The BRITs and Capital Xtra, said: “I’m buzzing to be joining the team this summer!”

Radio 1 will also broadcast from major music festivals including TRNSMT, Boomtown, Ibiza, Malta and Reading & Leeds. Coverage will include headline sets and backstage moments, with live broadcasts on BBC Sounds and Radio 1 from 1pm to 4pm, Friday to Sunday.

The full schedule returns in September, with Greg James back to his usual 10.30am finish and Katie Thistleton rejoining Jamie Laing for Going Home.
