Ofcom has fined the former operator of Salaam BCR £3,500 after ruling that broadcasts on the station included antisemitic hate speech.
The regulator found that statements aired twice on 17 October last year included abusive and derogatory references to Jewish people.
In a decision published on 21 October last year, Ofcom said the content had clear potential to cause significant offence and lacked context that could have justified its inclusion.
The station was run by Markaz-Al-Huda Limited as a community radio service for the Bury area. It surrendered its broadcasting licence for 1566AM in October 2024.
In its ruling, Ofcom said the breaches of the Broadcasting Code were serious and warranted a financial penalty. The fine of £3,500 will be paid to HM Treasury.

Salaam BCR’s website is still operational, offering an online audio feed of programmes. It claims to reach 35,000 listeners monthly.
