Student radio stations across the South have joined forces for the third time in a 24-hour broadcast to raise money for charity.
‘The Round the Clock Radio Challenge 3’ brought together student presenters from Nerve Radio in Bournemouth, PURE FM in Portsmouth and Surge Radio in Southampton.
This year’s broadcast took place at Nerve Radio’s studios at Bournemouth University on 28 June, and featured live programming from midday to midday. The mix of shows included quizzes, interviews and a DJ set, raising funds for Sophie’s Legacy, Simon Says, Teenage Cancer Trust and the Journey of a Lifetime Trust.
The student-led challenge was first created in 2022 by Joshua Dodd during his time as South Regional Officer at the Student Radio Association. It has since picked up five national awards and raised the profile of student radio across the South Coast.
Pip Hemingway, the current South Regional Officer, led this year’s challenge. She said: “The fact that students are happy to be on air at such late and early hours is testament to the passion they have for radio. Taking part in the first ever challenge, to now organising the third, is such a proud moment for me.”
Jacob Dyer, Station Manager of Nerve Radio, added: “I am delighted that Nerve Radio has hosted The Round the Clock Radio Challenge this year. Last year it was incredible to see the stations come together for the mammoth broadcast – I couldn’t wait to do it all again.”
The latest total shows more than £2100 has now been raised across all three challenges, with this year’s event hitting its £800 target this morning.
