Sunrise Radio CEO Usha Parmar wins lifetime achievement award

Sunrise Radio Chief Executive Usha Parmar has received a Lifetime Achievement award at the Yorkshire Business Power Awards in Bradford.

The ceremony, held on 13 July at the Cedar Court Hotel, recognised Usha’s work in transforming Sunrise Radio (Yorkshire) into a trusted platform for the Asian community, and her wider contribution to business, social issues and women’s rights.

Usha began her career as a teacher and later worked as a project manager before taking leadership of Sunrise Radio. Under her direction, the Bradford-based station has expanded its FM and DAB coverage and launched training and digital initiatives for younger audiences.

She has been recognised nationally for her leadership and remains an active campaigner on issues affecting women and Asian youth. Speaking at the awards, Usha said: “I am extremely humbled and honoured to have my dedication and commitment recognised at the Business Power Awards.”

Sunrise Radio broadcasts across Calderdale and Keighley on 100.6FM, and on DAB in several areas including East Lancashire and Milton Keynes. The station first went on air on 9 December 1989.

The Yorkshire Business Power Awards are organised by the Asian Express newspaper and highlight the contributions of women across a range of sectors.

Co-founder and editor Andleeb Hanif said the event celebrates “women whose stories are the embodiment of change-making, resilience and innovation”.
