Boomerang Radio to launch on Cambridgeshire DAB

Boomerang Radio will expand digital commercial radio choice in the county when it launches on DAB this year.

The new service will focus on instantly recognisable hits from the 1960s through to the early 2000s, alongside locally made programming aimed at listeners across Cambridgeshire.

Boomerang Radio has been created by Bill Hensley (in the photo), formerly station manager at HCR FM in Huntingdon, working with a management team made up of experienced radio professionals from the area, bringing together local knowledge and established broadcast skills.

The station is building a presenter line-up featuring familiar voices from the region, with Pete Tee returning to Cambridgeshire radio to host drivetime after previous roles with WGMS Classic Gold and Lite FM in Peterborough.

Breakfast will be presented by Chris Tibbles, whose career has included stations across Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire, as he takes on the role of waking up the county each weekday morning.

Chris said, “I am really looking to waking up Cambridgeshire each day. I have all the information for the county, some great music, and a bit of a giggle along the way.”

The wider on-air team also includes Gavin Samways, Gary Ball, Vince Edwards, Des Barber, Nigel Payne and Gary Champion, contributing to a schedule built around music, conversation and locally focused content.

Programming will feature regular what’s on guides, interviews with people from across the county and competitions, alongside a playlist designed around familiar songs spanning several decades.

Bill said the focus has been on delivering a service rooted in the area, adding, “Boomerang Radio is built on local values. Truly local radio is back for Cambridgeshire with local interviews, instantly recognisable music that you can sing along to, and some really strong voices on air.”

The station began broadcasting online at the end of October via its website, mobile apps and smart speakers, with plans to launch on DAB across Cambridgeshire early this year, starting in Peterborough before expanding to Cambridge, Huntingdon, and the Ely and Fens transmitters.
