Commercial radio news awards entry deadline extended
The deadline to enter the Commercial Radio News Awards has been extended, giving news teams and journalists a few extra days to submit their work.
Organisers have confirmed entries will now be accepted until next Monday 19 January at 12pm, following what they describe as a busy start to this year across the industry.
The awards, run in association with IRN and Sky News, celebrate journalism, production and presentation in commercial radio news and sport, recognising the work heard by millions of listeners across the UK.
Entrants are being encouraged to review their strongest bulletins, interviews, special reports and original journalism, and match submissions to one of the 13 available categories. These include News Team of the Year, Best News Story or Coverage, Best Interview, Best Sports Coverage and Reporter of the Year across national, regional and specialist roles.
This year includes two notable eligibility changes. For the first time, journalists working within a hub but assigned to a specific station or group of stations with a combined TSA under 1.5 million can enter the smaller team category. The student category has also been widened, allowing entries from students who are not enrolled on a BJTC-accredited course.
Full entry details and category information are available at website.
The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 26 March this year at Sky. On the night, the IRN Gold Award will also be presented, recognising an outstanding contribution to news or sport in UK commercial radio.
This honour is not open for entry, although suggestions for recipients can be submitted by email to irnawards@me.com.
