Guernsey broadcaster John Randall dies after short illness
BBC Radio Guernsey presenter John Randall has died at the age of 68 following a short illness.
John joined BBC Radio Guernsey 25 years ago to launch the station’s first dedicated local afternoon programme.
His broadcasting career began earlier on Offshore Radio in 1988, before he went on to help set up Island FM four years later.
In recent years, John presented an evening show on Mondays and Fridays, alongside a Sunday afternoon programme heard across Guernsey and Jersey.
John’s career began as a mobile DJ, a background that shaped a distinctive broadcasting style recognised across the Channel Islands. He is remembered as a generous and warm figure whose voice became part of daily life for many listeners.
Stephanie Marshall, Senior Head of Content Production for the West, South West and Channel Islands said: “John has been an integral member of BBC Radio Guernsey and part of people’s lives on the Channel Islands for more than 25 years. He joined us as staff in June 2000 and has been a constant presence ever since.
“For more than a quarter of a century, John’s voice has been heard across the region, and it’s hard to imagine anyone on the Channel Islands who wouldn’t recognise his distinctive style. He was a kind and generous man – who would light up any room. He will be deeply missed, and my thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time.”
