
Ofcom publishes applications for small-scale DAB Round 8
Ofcom has today published the list of applications received for the eighth round of small-scale DAB multiplex licences.
The regulator says it has received 21 applications for the 50 small-scale DAB radio multiplex licences that were advertised as part of the latest phase of the rollout.
Ofcom says each submission will be considered against its statutory criteria, with decisions on which licences will be awarded expected in the coming months. Any comments on the applications must be sent to Ofcom’s licensing team by 5pm on Friday 6 February this year.
The round eight applications cover a wide range of areas across the UK. In Northern Ireland, NIDAB Limited has applied for multiplexes covering Armagh, Ballymena, Coleraine, and Cookstown and Dungannon.
In England, areas attracting applications include Barnsley, Burton-on-Trent and Lichfield, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury, Chester, Chippenham and Malmesbury, Derby, Guildford and Woking, Leamington Spa and Stratford-upon-Avon, Lincoln, Newbury, South West Sussex, Telford and Shrewsbury, and Weymouth and Dorchester.
In Scotland, applications have been submitted for South West Fife, Skye and Lochalsh, and Ullapool.
A company calling itself TLRC (Radio Investments) Ltd, previously dormant as Broadcast Imports Ltd, is the applicant for Cheltenham and Tewkesbury.
One area has received more than one application, Derby, where bids have been submitted by Derby DAB Ltd and Maxxwave Ltd.
