U.DAB launches full North London DAB multiplex
U.DAB has officially launched its fully licensed North London DAB multiplex.
The multiplex has moved from a trial operation to a full licence and expanded its transmitter network to improve coverage across North and Central London.
Previously operating with three transmitters, the new licensed service now runs with double that number, extending reception to around four million adults.
U.DAB Ltd is backed by a group of shareholders drawn from across the radio and audio sector, including Audessence, Sammy Jacob, Solar Broadcasting, Muxnet and several established community stations such as Reprezent, Rinse, Resonance, Nagrecha Radio, The Beat and Rainbow Radio.
The multiplex launches close to capacity with 26 stations, although U.DAB says there is still limited space available for additional services.
The launch line-up brings together a broad range of formats and audiences, including Reprezent, Rinse FM, Resonance, Resonance Extra, Nagrecha Radio, Rainbow Radio, The Beat London, Radio Caroline, Select Radio, Kool FM, CDNX, Soho Radio, Solar Radio, Asian Star Radio, London Greek Radio, Fun Kids, Liberty Radio, Polish Radio, House FM and Hellas Radio UK, alongside several others.
Founder Martin Spencer said the completion of the project had been years in the making.
He thanked stations that stayed with the multiplex during its development, adding that the focus now turns to the future and continuing to offer a wide choice of DAB listening for London.
