Bobby Davro reopens Gateway 97.8 studios

Gateway 97.8 has reopened its upgraded studios in Basildon after renovation work to improve facilities for volunteers and trainees.

Comedian Bobby Davro visited the station at the Eastgate Centre to officially cut the red ribbon and mark the relaunch.

Building work has focused on improving soundproofing in the studios and upgrading training spaces used by members. The station says the changes are designed to enhance the broadcasting environment and support those learning radio skills.

Bobby also appeared live on air during the visit, speaking about his career, his impressions and his long-standing connection with radio.

Gateway 97.8 Director Danny Lawrence said: “Bobby has a long history in Essex. We first met at Kings Canvey in the 1980s and have stayed in touch since.

“Bobby has done so much for radio over the years. Our members loved meeting him.”

Danny added that the visit was a chance for volunteers to meet someone with decades of entertainment experience.

Gateway 97.8 broadcasts locally from Basildon and is now on DAB.
