Dorset Coast Radio celebrates DAB+ expansion

The team at Dorset Coast Radio is celebrating its recent addition to a second DAB digital radio multiplex.

The move extends the station’s digital reach beyond Poole, Purbeck and Wimborne, where it has been broadcast since it launched.

Station Manager Andy Marlor said: “Extending our DAB coverage into Christchurch and Bournemouth is a proud moment for our team.

“We’re already reaching listeners across Poole, Purbeck and Wimborne, and this expansion means even more people can tune in.”

The volunteer-run service launched in April 2025 and has focused on local stories alongside music output.

Its Community Connect show works with voluntary groups and community organisations, giving them airtime to share information and updates.

Andy added: “Alongside great music, that we already know our listeners love, our aim has always been to amplify local stories and support the organisations that make Dorset such a vibrant place to live.”

Each weeknight, the programme spotlights a different group or organisation. Since launch, more than 140 local organisations have taken part, using the platform to reach new audiences across the area.

The DAB+ expansion increases the station’s technical coverage footprint and makes its service available to more households across Bournemouth and Christchurch, as well as online and via smart speakers.
