Farnborough station seeks broader audience focus
A Key Commitments change request could mean the end of Glow Radio being a youth-focused service if Ofcom approves changes to its community licence.
The regulator has opened a consultation on a request from Rush FM Limited, which holds the community radio licence for Farnborough broadcasting as Glow Radio .
The licensee wants to change its Key Commitments so the station serves “the people who live, work and study within its licensed area” rather than under-40s in Farnborough and surrounding areas .
It also proposes revising its social gain aim. Instead of providing dedicated shows to give local young people a voice and showcase their talents, the station would provide some dedicated output for under-40s while benefiting people, businesses and charitable organisations across the licensed area .
Ofcom says it considers the change would substantially alter the character of the service and is therefore consulting before making a final decision .
In its preliminary view, Ofcom is minded to approve the request, subject to consultation responses, and says it is satisfied on a provisional basis that the change would not narrow programme choice for under-40s or prejudice access and social gain .
The consultation closes at 5pm on 11 March 2026 .
