PRS waives fee on grassroots ticket levy fund

PRS for Music will not include the LIVE Trust’s £1 voluntary ticket contribution in its licence fee calculations, protecting funding for grassroots music.

The move means the £1 added to stadium and arena tickets will go in full to the LIVE Trust and Music Venues Trust, without being subject to PRS licence fees.

The commitment was announced by Gavin Larkins, Director of Commercial Development at PRS for Music, at the Night Time Economy Summit 2026. Gavin also confirmed the organisation is undertaking a broader review of its live tariffs following sector feedback.

Ian Murray MP, Minister for Creative Industries, Media and Arts, welcomed the decision, saying: “The £1 on stadium and arena tickets is a fantastic initiative and we welcome PRS for Music’s commitment to supporting the grassroots.”

Kirsty McShannon, Chair of LIVE Trust, said: “We’re extremely grateful to PRS for Music for agreeing to waive PRS fees on the £1 from every ticket that supports LIVE Trust.”

Andrea Czapary Martin, Chief Executive Officer of PRS for Music, said the organisation is backing the funding mechanic to ensure every penny is reinvested in the live ecosystem. She confirmed a multi-year review of live music tariffs is under way, involving customers, members and industry partners.

The initiative forms part of PRS for Music’s Livelihood campaign and follows commitments from major artists and venues over the past year.
