Radio Maria chief signs off after expansion

Radio Maria England now broadcasts on 17 DAB areas following a three-year expansion under its outgoing Operations Manager.

Pierre Petrou has stepped down from the Christian station after overseeing significant changes to its distribution, fundraising and internal systems.

During his tenure, the station increased its DAB digital radio coverage from four local multiplex areas to 17 across the UK, widening access to its programming.

Listener-supported fundraising also rose, with major annual appeals growing from under £5,000 to £65,000. The additional income supported further broadcast rollout, infrastructure development and long-term sustainability.

Operationally, the organisation introduced strengthened compliance processes and upgraded broadcast and back-office systems. Pierre also led the relocation of infrastructure from Cambridge to London, while moving the Cambridge studio and operations to a central city site.

He introduced the Radio Maria Listen Again facility in England, which is now being adopted by other stations within the global Radio Maria network.

Pierre said: “It has been a privilege to help strengthen Radio Maria England’s foundations and broaden its reach. I’m particularly proud of the Listen Again facility and the expansion in DAB coverage.”

Radio Maria England continues to broadcast as part of the wider international network. Pierre is seeking new leadership and consultancy roles within UK broadcasting and media.
