Bauer Media Audio brings Rayo to Android Automotive connected vehicles
Bauer Media Audio has made its Rayo platform available directly inside connected vehicle dashboards via Android Automotive.
The new version of the Android app is now live in the UK and Portugal, allowing listeners to access Bauer Media’s radio stations without needing a smartphone connection.
From today, Rayo is integrated into infotainment systems within BMW Group vehicles, including BMW and MINI models running Android Automotive OS.
This means drivers can listen to live radio through a native app built into the car, rather than relying on mirrored services such as Android Auto.
The platform has been developed using Radioplayer’s white label Android Automotive technology, with distribution supported by the Appning Apps Market Solution. The rollout is designed to ensure radio remains accessible as more vehicles adopt built-in operating systems.
At launch, the app focuses on live radio streaming across Bauer Media’s stations. Additional features, including on-demand audio and podcasts, are expected to follow as the platform develops.
Tobias Nielsen, Senior Vice President, Digital at Bauer Media Audio, said bringing Rayo into dashboards offers more ways for listeners to stay connected, particularly as in-car listening continues to grow.
Laurence Harrison added that the launch shows how broadcasters can reach audiences directly through vehicle systems, while Mattijs de Valk said it helps expand the range of audio apps available to manufacturers.
The move is part of Bauer Media Audio’s wider plan to keep its content accessible across multiple platforms, including mobile, smart speakers and connected vehicles.
