Broadcaster Dave Jamieson has passed away at the age of 76

Former BBC and commercial radio presenter Dave Jamieson has died in Spain, where he had lived for a number of years, aged 76.

Most recently, Dave worked for Boom Radio, where he was part of the station’s launch in 2021. He remained on air from Spain hosting Sunday mornings after starting on Saturday breakfast.

Born in Edinburgh, Dave began broadcasting as a teenager in hospital radio before joining the early days of BBC local radio at its first station in Leicester. He also appeared on BBC Radio 1 Club and worked on air at BBC Scotland.

His commercial radio career included roles at BRMB in Birmingham, and he helped launch Radio Clyde in Glasgow and Mercia Sound in Coventry.

He also worked for Viking Radio in Hull from day one, presenting a programme called Noticeboard, and later worked at Radio Tees and Heart.

Away from radio, Dave was an out of vision announcer on ATV in the 1970s before moving to Central. His voice was heard nationally during daytime school programming.

In a tribute to Dave, Boom Radio said: “We are so sad to share the news that our Sunday early presenter Dave Jamieson died in Spain this week.

“Dave was part of the launch of Boom Radio in 2021, agreeing without hesitation to join his old friends Les Ross, Graham Torrington, Andy Marriott, Ron Coles, Quentin Howard and Phil Riley to play his part in our plans.

“With his love and knowledge of music and his enthusiasm and commitment to Boom, he’s been a valued member of the team from afar for five years on the Saturday breakfast show initially, before moving to Sundays. He will be much missed.”
