East Devon DAB multiplex service goes live

A new small-scale DAB service has gone live across parts of East Devon.

ExeDab has extended its Exeter-based multiplex into coastal and market towns including Sidmouth and Honiton, bringing additional digital radio services to the area.

The launch means Sid Valley Radio can now be heard on broadcast radio in its home town for the first time, rather than solely online. The station already had carriage on the ExeDab network in Exeter.

ExeDab is run jointly by Radio Exe and Phonic FM, both of which are now available in stereo across East Devon on the expanded network. Radio Exe’s speech and podcast service, Devoncast Radio, is also included.

To coincide with the expansion, Devon’s three small-scale DAB networks, ExeDab, TorDab and PlymDab, have introduced a spring offer enabling stations to access audiences across the county at a discounted rate.

Paul Nero, managing director of Radio Exe, said: “This new investment in East Devon means listeners in growing towns such as Honiton and Sidmouth can now enjoy additional digital radio stations that cover their areas, while opening up new services for advertisers too.”

Bob Weeks, station manager of Sid Valley Radio, said: “This has been a long time coming, but now we’re able to reach more listeners and support more community groups in the area.”
