Ian Cottier marks 90 years with 45-year Manx radio milestone
Manx Radio presenter Ian Cottier has celebrated his 90th birthday, still hosting the same weekly show without a break.
Ian has presented Time for Brass for 45 years, which he created while he was Headmaster at St Ninian’s High School on the Isle of Man.
The show features brass band music from around the world as well as local Isle of Man bands. It airs weekly at 9pm on Monday evenings from Manx Radio’s studio at Douglas Head. Ian has maintained the schedule even when away on holiday by recording episodes in advance.
Chris Sully (Pearson), Managing Director at Manx Radio, said: “Ian is a broadcasting legend on the Isle of Man, and his show has huge and popular appeal across the whole community.
“Spending half of your life presenting and producing the same show is a remarkable achievement and one which we believe, could be a record in the British Isles for a music-based show being presented by the same presenter.”
The station marked the occasion with a small celebration, presenting Ian with engraved whiskey glasses and a bottle to enjoy with them.
