Salaam Radio receives a sanction for licence breaches in 2024
Salaam Radio has been fined £400 by Ofcom for failing to meet its licence Key Commitments in June 2024.
The community station, serving Peterborough’s Muslim community, was found to not be complying with requirements on character of service, speech, original output and social gain during the week of 10 to 16 June 2024.
Ofcom’s 2024 Breach Decision, published in October 2023, identified breaches of Conditions 2(1), which requires the specified service to be provided for the licence period, and 2(4), requiring the maintaining of the character of the licenced service.
Ofcom considered the breaches serious enough to justify a statutory sanction.
While some Key Commitments on speech and original output were removed from Salaam Radio’s licence from 24 April 2025, Ofcom noted that the station would likely still have been found in breach regarding social gain and character of service for the 2024 broadcasts.
The £400 penalty reflects the steps Salaam Radio has taken since the 2024 Breach Decision to ensure compliance with its Key Commitments.
Ofcom said that without these improvements, the financial sanction would have been higher. The decision was formally published on 16 March 2026.
