talkSPORT host Danny Kelly steps back for treatment
talkSPORT presenter Danny Kelly will step back from broadcasting as he begins treatment for oesophageal cancer.
Danny shared the news on air during Kelly and Baker, explaining he will be heard less frequently over the coming months while undergoing a programme of treatment.
He has been part of the station since 2007 and said the diagnosis followed a recent visit to his doctor after initially suspecting a minor issue.
Danny told listeners: “I want to tell you some personal news. To all of the millions of you listening to me now… I’m going to tell you that I am a sick man.”
He confirmed further tests showed the cancer has not spread, and outlined the treatment ahead.
Danny said: “What I’m facing… is a tough and lengthy programme of treatment… It is a hard road, but one that the doctors are hopeful that will see me emerge recovered and healthy.”
He also used the announcement to urge listeners to seek medical advice if something does not feel right.
Danny added: “If you feel something just isn’t right in your body… go to the doctor. Get yourself checked out.”
talkSPORT will support Danny in deciding when he feels able to return to air during his recovery.
