Tieline pocket codec aims to simplify remote broadcasts
A new portable codec designed for remote broadcasting workflows will be shown publicly for the first time at NAB 2026.
Tieline has introduced the ViA Duo, a compact unit aimed at reporters, commentators and programme makers working outside the studio, combining multiple IP audio functions into a single device.
The codec supports remote broadcasts, commentary and off-tube production, with the ability to handle IP streaming across cellular, Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections, alongside HDMI video output and multiple AoIP protocols.
Charlie Gawley said: “ViA Duo is Tieline’s new generation remote codec that builds on our trusted ViA technology. It truly bridges the gap between field reporting and commentary.”
The unit includes two XLR mic and line inputs, headphone outputs and bidirectional stereo or dual mono transmission, removing the need for separate mixers, processors or playback equipment in many scenarios.
It can also be used as an AoIP node for stadium commentary positions, linking to outside broadcast trucks or studio hubs over LAN or WAN connections, while supporting off-tube workflows using live video feeds.
Tieline says the device is designed for a range of uses, including two-person sports commentary, guest interviews, and presenters working remotely or on location.
The ViA Duo will be demonstrated at the company’s NAB booth in Las Vegas, with remote control available through its embedded web interface or optional cloud-based system.
