BBC gives staff latest update on Mills departure

A further internal update has been shared with BBC staff following the departure of Scott Mills.

Rhodri Talfan Davies told colleagues a new statement had been issued, acknowledging the impact on teams who worked with Scott over many years and thanking them for their professionalism during a difficult period.

Rhodri said there had been significant speculation since the news emerged, but stressed there were limits to what could be shared publicly due to the rights of those involved.

In the statement, the BBC confirmed it had received new information in recent weeks and spoke directly with Scott before deciding to terminate his contracts on Friday 27 March.

The organisation said it acted in line with its culture and values, and pointed to work already underway to strengthen standards following an independent review last year.

It also confirmed it had been made aware in 2017 of an ongoing police investigation, which later concluded in 2019 without arrest or charge.

Rhodri added that further work is now taking place to understand what was known internally at that time, as the BBC continues to review its processes and handling of such matters.
