BBC Radio 2’s Bob Harris returns to hospital for treatment

Bob Harris has told listeners he is back in hospital and taking a short break from his BBC Radio 2 shows.

Posting on Instagram, he said he is receiving treatment for an issue that has developed over the past few weeks.

“As many of you know, I suffer from prostate cancer, and every now and again I experience setbacks that need attention. Now is one of these moments,” he wrote.

Bob confirmed this week’s Country Show is scheduled as planned, and his Sounds of the 70’s episode on 12th April will feature an 80th birthday celebration special he recorded before attending the C2C Festival with Zoe Ball.

During his absence, Darius Rucker will guest on Country, while Shaun Keaveny will cover Sounds of the 70’s for a few weeks.

Bob said he couldn’t provide a return date but reassured listeners: “I know that I will come back… and come back stronger. I hate missing programmes and I am keen to get back into the studio as soon as I can.”

He paid tribute to his family, friends, and manager Nick Canham for their support during this period. “Thank you with all my heart to them and to all my listeners whose words and messages here mean so much. Sending you all my fondest love,” he added.

He concluded by telling fans he will return to the station when he is ready.
