Virgin Radio launch new website

National rock and pop station Virgin Radio have revealed their brand new website this morning at virginradio.co.uk

The entire site has been months in the making, and has been created by the newly appointed in house digital media team who have been working around the clock to bring the site online.

The site will have a stronger focus on music and will be aimed at people who love the type of music that Virgin Radio loves, both current Virgin Radio listeners as well as music lovers who haven?t yet discovered the station. New revenue streams including page peels, and dedicated microsites and podcasts mean that the new site is also exciting and appealing for advertisers.

With its slick new look, the site will include tons of new innovative stuff including interactive and collaborative content such as forums for users to chat about their favourite music and artists. Unusually these forums will actually be voted for by users and will only be created if there is enough interest from the listeners themselves.

The pioneering site is moving from one where Virgin Radio are creating all of the content to one which allows Virgin Radio to collaborate with its users to create a more content-rich experience, leading the way for radio websites. Visitors to the website will also be able to submit their own content onto the site including gig reviews and music news.

The site has many innovative quirks such as the colour pallet which has been made up of colours taken from iconic album covers. For example the blues from The Eagle?s Hotel California have been used, the orange from Coldplay?s Parachutes and the yellow from Hard Fi?s Stars of CCTV.

?The new look site will take advantage of the site?s wealth of great music content which is currently hidden behind the station?s brand and content? says James Cridland, Virgin Radio?s Digital Media Director, ?This is the metamorphosis of turning a ?radio station site that also has music content? into a site that is unashamedly aimed at people who enjoy the music we all love.?
