JACKfm Oxfordshire goes back to Bastion

Oxfordshire’s 106 JACKfm is sending two presenters to Afghanistan for a series of special programmes, 18 months on from a previous visit to the country by the station.

News editor Caroline Verdon and sports show host Andrew Self will spend a week at Camp Bastion from 11th June.

The pair will host a special live breakfast show from the BFBS studios on the army base. They’ll also visit Lashkar Gah and Kandahar, and will spend the week living and eating alongside service personnel. While there they will be given access to talk to Oxfordshire troops about the important roles they’re playing in Afghanistan.

The station says it will do daily blogs along with photos and provide audio messages to and from British service personnel.

JACKfm News Editor Caroline Verdon said: “To be given a second opportunity to visit our guys and girls in Afghanistan is an absolute honour. I’m also really looking forward to reuniting families on our special Father’s Day show on Sunday June 17. I’m just hoping no-one discovers I’m terrified of sleeping in the dark while I’m out there.”

Russell Thompson from the Royal British Legion added: “We’re thrilled that JACK fm will once again be broadcasting from Camp Bastion in support of The Royal British Legion. We know that this ‘air bridge’ between the UK and Afghanistan will help to bring our brave Armed Forces closer to the folks at home. Supporting our Armed Forces is what the Legion – and JACK fm – are all about.”
