Asian Network Takeover returns with a brand-new line-up

Three more DJs have been lined up for the Asian Network Takeover show.

The weekly slot, Wednesdays, 10pm – 12am, will see DJs from across the Asian music scene deliver mixes showcasing Dance, Garage, Asian Mashups and more.

In October, it’s Chandé, in November, DJ Aza then in December it’ll be the turn of DJ Mimi.

Manchester-based Chandé has played breakout sets at Boiler Room, Boomtown Festival, and EartH London.

Chandé says: “I’m thrilled to be joining the Asian Network Takeover and follow in the footsteps of other DJ’s I admire, who’ve been featured on the station. I’ll be taking these first four shows in October as a chance to beam the spotlight on the past, present and future of South Asian sounds and artistry in Dance and Electronic music, as well as the connections we share with other cultures -It’ll be an absolute party moite!”

From learning the Dhol aged four to discovering DJ-ing in his teen years, DJ Aza is an international and concert DJ who has played around the world with the biggest artists including Drake, Trey Songz and Ashanti.

DJ Aza says: “I am really excited to be a part of The Takeover show on the BBC Asian Network! I am a regular listener to the station, so being asked to have my own show is a great achievement for myself! I will be bringing my club vibes to the show and representing my community! Set your alarms and be sure to tune in! I am about to TAKEOVER!”

Mimi is a DJ, radio presenter and promoter who often blends sounds from her culture with quintessential UK genres. Being of Mauritian heritage, Mimi’s proud African and South Asian influences can be found throughout her work as her mixes transcend international borders and she hopes to bring this fusion to her month of the takeover.

DJ Mimi says: “Being selected to be a part of the BBC Asian Network show is incredible! I cannot wait to explore and communicate the music that makes me do what I do today and to delve into the rich histories behind so many genres that have shaped me as a DJ. It is a huge opportunity for me to bring my heritage and culture to the wider South Asian diaspora and beyond.”

Each DJ will do a month on air and return six months later. More DJs will be added to the line-up in January 2022.
